In a groundbreaking joint undertaking, Lelienfontein Vine Growers and its partner, the Adama Workers Trust, have concluded the biggest Black Economic Empowerment agreement in the wine industry to date.
In all 430 ha of outstanding farming land has been transferred to Adama Apolo Holdings, which is 100% owned by qualifying workers from the farm. Included is a 50% share in De Rust (Pty) Ltd and De Bos Estate (Pty) Ltd, a 5% share in Bosman Farming (Pty) Ltd and 30% in Bosman Family Vineyards (Pty) Ltd. The wine cellar is now owned by the Trust in its entirety.
Our workers are therefore experiencing all aspects of production, from vineyard to wine. But at the core of this agreement is social upliftment and the transfer of skills, with indigenous fynbos conservation as a secondary goal.
